General Questions

Why do you charge a membership?

A membership is part of belonging to an association of like-minded individuals. For many organizations like the Steel Pan Collective, memberships (and donations) help pay the bills. Our organization is 100% volunteer based so any monies received go back into keeping the organization growing.

I see you are based in Colorado. Is membership only for Colorado residents?

A membership with the Steel Pan Collective is open to anyone interested in being a part of the community. It is not limited to one state or part of the U.S.

Can I send in a check instead of using a credit card to pay for my membership?

Yes, you can mail in your membership check. As you sign up, you will get to a payment screen. This screen will list where you can send your check. Make your check payable to: Steel Pan Collective. The address is P.O. Box 101931, Denver CO 80250-1931.

How soon can I use the members-only section once I sign up for membership?

Your access begins immediately if paying by credit card. It begins as soon as well receive your payment if paying by cash, check, or money order.

Someone in my band wants to join. How do I refer them?

All they have to do is put your first and last name on the application form. (It is the Who Referred You? field). We credit your account as soon as they become members.

Does it matter if I refer students and individuals?

They can be either.

How do I check on how many people I referred?

One way to check is to go into your profile and check under Invoices and Payments. You will see a credit for each referral. If you are not certain, you can always call us at 88-620-3390 or send us an email at admin@steelpancollective.org

Student Memberships

What are the requirements for a student membership?

Students need to be enrolled in a primary, secondary, post-secondary, post-graduate, or a doctoral program. All students need to provide is proof of their eligibility.

I take steel drum lessons with a private teacher. Can I qualify as a student?

While we would love to extend that discount to all steel pan students, our student memberships are intended for those enrolled in primary, secondary, post-secondary, graduate educational institutions. 

How can I prove that I am a student?

All you need to do is send us a copy of your student ID, transcript, or some other documentation from your school. They can be emailed to us at admin@steelpancollective.org. We usually look for your proof 7-10 days after you become a member.  

Do I need to send proof when I renew?

Yes. (See instructions above)

Can I list my school when I sign up?

Absolutely. We actually encourage that. Just fill in the school field on your application. You can also fill it in later when you fill out your profile.

I graduated from college recently. Can I change my membership?

Yes, you can change your membership when it expires or sooner. Just go to your profile and look for the Change Membership Level button. Students can move to the Individual membership. Individuals can also move to the student category. 

Do I have to be a music major or enrolled in a music program to be eligible for a student membership?

Students just need to be enrolled in a school/university and have an interest in playing or supporting steel pan. 


Individual Memberships

Is there a membership for groups or professionals?

We offer an individual memberships currently. However, we are open to speaking with any group with more than one member looking to join to see what can be worked out. Please contact us for more info. 

I am in several bands and also offer private lessons. What membership is right for me?

Go with the individual membership.

Business Memberships

What does the business supporter membership get you?

In addition to the same member benefits enjoyed by individuals and students, businesses enjoy more opportunities to let members and the general public know about their products and services. Businesses can advertise, participate in sponsorships, and be an active part of the pan community.
